Who created this painting?

October 3, 2011

This intriguing, though somewhat lugubrious, depiction of St. Dominic is coming up at Christie’s London in a couple of weeks … with the attribution Roman School, 17th century … it’s oil on copper, has some condition issues, and is oddly winning … the face of the saint suggests Guido Reni while the angels & putti are more Ciro Ferri … am keeping an eye on this …

UPDATE: The painting was estimated at £4,000 – £6,000 (excluding buyer’s premium) and sold on October 26, 2011 for £4,750 (including buyer’s premium – a little over $7,500).
