While all eyes are on upcoming New York auctions … check out this one in Basel

Next week at Sotheby’s & Christie’s the Impressionist and Modern art auctions feature a Klimt landscape at Sotheby’s (est. $25 million) and a Degas ballerina statue at Christie’s (est. $25-35 million) … but here’s another auction worth some time … the ancient art sale at Basel, Switzerland-based Cahn … here are some of the many intriguing lots:

A BLACK-FIGURE NECK-AMPHORA, ATTRIBUTED TO THE MANNER OF THE ANTIMENES PAINTER, H. 40 cm. Clay. Attic, ca. 520-510 B.C. Starting bid $27,000.

A BLACK-FIGURE OLPE H. 29.4 cm. Clay. Corinthian, Transitional Period, ca. 630 B.C. Starting Bid $36,000.

AN IMPORTANT LARGE FEMALE IDOL OF THE SPEDOS TYPE H. 43.8 cm. Middle-grained, white marble with dark inclusions, traces of red paint. Early Cycladic II, 2700-2300 B.C. Starting bid $538,000.
