AWOL and Loving it!

Today’s New York Times carries two stories about the power of knowledge and its greater accessibility.  Thomas Freidman’s column details a new venture that could revolutionize the world of higher education, and a metro story profiles a 30-year old boiler maker & body builder who is now attending the Geisel Medical School at Dartmouth. Knowledge rules!

Well, the cleverly titled AWOL — Ancient World Online — provides access to a remarkable wealth of information about the ancient world, archaeology, history, and more.  Each posting offers a remarkable surfeit of information, even more so for the multi-lingual as the site provides open access to journals, lectures, papers, recordings, and others in many different languages.  Here’s the posting from February 14, 2012, when AWOL provided links to 1158 open access journals in ancient studies — 1158 journals! Everyday is not like this at AWOL, but everyday does offer the curious and connoisseurs open access to the ancient world:
