Want a Caravaggio? Do you have £60 million?

July 3, 2012

Michelangel Merisi called Caravaggio, Saint Augustine, The rediscovered masterpiece from the Giustiniani collection, Oil on canvas 120 by 99 cms.

Whitfield Fine Art, currently exhibiting at Masterpiece London, is asking £60 million for this painting of St. Augustine, an “authenticated Caravaggio made around 1600 for Cardinal Benedetto Giustiniani” says the Art Newspaper.  There’s far from consensus about this attribution (and one fair attendee observed fair goers laughing in disbelief).
